NASCAR 2009

NASCAR 2009 in Las Vegas was a blast. You can't go wrong with friends, family, camping, NASCAR, BBQ, and Vegas!! So the weekend started out with the classic RAOD TRIP!! We piled into the truck (and when I say, piled, I mean piled. . . Scott, Kristi, Jared, Heidi, Karen & Phil). We headed down on Wednesday night. We debated whether we should stop in St George and camp out, but decided against it. We drove on and arrived in Vegas at 3:00 in the morning. Pulled the trailer into the spot and all jumped into bed. We were so glad that we went straight through, because we were able to attend the Hauler Parade on the Strip.
Next, we hit the town! Now this was a first for Heidi, so we told her the first thing she had to do was pick a driver. We headed to the NASCAR Cafe and had some lunch and went into the shop. She started looking at the gear and picked up an M&M Hat. "I Love This!" she says. . . and Phil started shaking his head at her. "Heidi, you can't pick a driver, just because his hat is cute!" Kyle Busch was the driver, and in our house, well we are Kyle Busch Haters!! We told her to think about it, but I know that she was loving the Busch idea.

Here are the gals hanging out, having lunch!
The rest of the weekend was spent at the truck. I know that a million pictures were taken at camp. But I can't find any. If anyone has pictures of camp. . . please send me some. I can post if you want, or you can just send so that I can add it to my own personal collection.
The races started and we had a lot of fun. On Saturday night we made our way over to the track. With the lights on, they were racing cars around the track.
Its always a fun thing to go in after hours and see them preparing for the festivities for the next day. One of the things we love about the NASCAR experience is the friends you meet on the way. We've become friends with our camping neighbors and they invited us to join in on a "little game". Everyone picked a driver (though you didn't get the chance to pick your favorite, you picked a driver from a hat). So it was Phil's turn to draw a driver, and he picked. . . Kyle Busch!!! What an insult. How do we cheer for the boy that we hate the very most? Racing starts and we are having a blast. It was Kent's first time at the track. . . and I know that he was hooked the second that he walked thru the gates.

Checker Flag

Who ends up winning?!?!? Yes, Kyle Busch. We couldn't complain - $400 bucks paid for our food and travel that weekend. But like I said, it was really hard cheering for the one guy that you didn't want to cheer for.

(Notice the hat? Yes, it was the cute M&M hat Heidi wanted-we told her that if she really wanted to be a Kyle Busch fan, then go ahead, it's always good to have some good, fun competition amongst the family members)
After the race, we made our way to Victory Lane to enjoy the festivities. We tried to get the winner's autograph, but he proved his point as to why we hate him . . . he was a jerk to the fans. We love NASCAR!!
